ALVES ALMOST A CERTAINTY

Liverpool are planning a £12 million bid for Sevilla star Daniel Alves.

Liverpool and Chelsea are battling for the Sevilla fullback.

Benitez was scared off by Seville's £12m asking price last summer but is now confident of prising him away from the La Liga title chasers.

The Brazilian is being made available in the summer by Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido after agreeing to play out this season with the Primera Liga club.

The Daily Mail says both Chelsea and Liverpool are determined to bring Alves to England over the close-season. Anfield owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks have given Rafa Benitez the green light to outbid Chelsea for one of La Liga's best players.

Benitez is continuing to monitor Alves despite Chelsea's interest in the versatile Brazilian, who is equally comfortable as a right-back or winger.

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is planning to trump Liverpool and Chelsea for Alves.

But Alves is far from certain to agree to a Liverpool switch and his preference for a move to the capital could also alert Chelsea, who are after a top-class right-back.

The Liverpool owners are sending out a message to Rafa Benitez that it would be up to him to convince Brazilian right wing-back Daniel Alves that his future lies at Anfield.

They have given Rafa the green light to pursue and outbid any offers coming for the player.

Meeting the transfer demand is not an issue anymore but it has been rumoured that Alves has preference to London than Liverpool and that remains the only stumbling block.

As such it would thus be crucial the South American and Spanish influence that we have here could hopefully sway his decision to favour Liverpool.

Also, ChelSKeA's Roman Abramovich is reportedly tightening the lavish spending of MOANrinho. The Gooners, on the other hand, not having the financial means to out muscle Liverpool, will definitely task the likes of Gilberto and Batista into enticing Alves.

But ultimately, all circumstances are pointing that Alves be a Red come next season. Its exciting times ahead at Anfield.
