TEVEZ CHASE HOTS UP

Olympique Marseille are chasing West Ham United striker Carlitos Tevez.

The Daily Mail says the ailing French giants have recently been taken over by Canadian tycoon Jack Kachkar who has close links to Media Sports Investments, the company which owns the rights to Tevez.

Marseille see the 23-year-old Argentinian as an ideal replacement for Djibril Cisse, who has been disappointing since going on loan from Liverpool this season.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has also been linked with a summer move for the West Ham United striker.

Tevez is finally showing what he is capable of for struggling West Ham and The Mirror claim that his form has attracted the attention of Liverpool boss Benitez. The Spaniard has been handed a £40 million transfer budget and appears to be targeting a striker, with the likes of Samuel Eto'o, David Villa, David Trezeguet and even Michael Owen all being linked with moves to Anfield.

Now it appears Tevez can be added to the list of potential targets as the American Revolution begins at Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Chelsea are the latest clubs to be linked with a summer move for the Argentine.

The News of the World are reporting that the Premiership rivals are both keen on signing the Argentine International.

The duo will join Liverpool, Juventus, Inter Milan and Real Madrid as the race hots up for the talented striker.

Arsene Wenger has added sparked to the speculation that he could also be set to make a summer move for West Ham United striker Carlos Tevez.

The Arsenal boss has admitted his admiration for the Argentine striker, and with the future of Thierry Henry in doubt, Tevez could be a ready made replacement for the talented Frenchman.

Wenger said: "He was on the market last summer but I didn't look for strikers because I felt I had enough.

"Tevez has it because he is not scared and is ready for a challenge physically.

"And that is one important quality in this country, when you go to Sheffield, to Newcastle, you need to be ready for a fight. He has character."

West Ham do have first refusal on Tevez, however even if the club avoid relegation they are not prepared to pay the £25 million transfer fee.

Tevez has scored 3 goals in 23 appearances for struggling West Ham this season after taking a while to settle into Premiership life.

Editor's Notes

Its inevitable that the 'Big Clubs' will ultimately join in the chase for the talented Argentine.

Tevez has been in doldrums with the Hammers but he has been in good form of late. He may not be an old-fashion out-and-out striker that could get 20 goals a season but he is admired for his inventive play and his flair.

Although Marseille are seen as favourites to land the striker due to the new owner's relationship with Media Sports Investment, it could well depend on the outcome of the recent investigation by the English FA on the allegedly illegal acquisitions of Mascherano and Tevez to Upton Park.

West Ham do have first refusal for Tevez but it seems more likely then not that they are facing an almost impossible battle against relegation. It would be unimaginable for Tevez, dubbed by many as 'the new Maradona' to stay with a relegated club though Alan Curbishley might say otherwise.

Ultimately it could be left to be battled out between Liverpool and Real Madrid due to the Spanish and Argentine influence in the squad. Mascherano could perhaps help sway the advantage to Liverpool having been a close buddy to Tevez making the journey together to the torturous league of England.

On another note, Rafa would also have to come to terms to the fact that Djibril Cisse would eventually make his return to Liverpool after failing to impress the management and the crowd at Marseille.

But regardless of Cisse's return or otherwise, I imagine that Rafa will still go out there and get another. Cisse will just have to prove himself all over again, if indeed he were to be given another opportunity by Rafa.
